Find the density of the box below. Will the box sink or float?
Remember: Water has a density of 1g/mL
“The box will _sink/float_ because the density of the box is___g/cm3, which is _more/less_ than the density of water.
"Do Now" Answer:
Step 1: Find Volume
Volume= length x width x height
V = 12.5 cm x 5.6 cm x 5.6 cm à V = 392 cm3
Step 2: What’s the Mass?
M = 456 g
Step 3: Calculate Density
Density = Mass ÷ Volume
D = 456 g ÷ 392 cm3 à D = 1.16 g/cm3
