Instead we poop in a bag. More specifically a "wag bag".
WAG (Waste Alleviation and Gelling) Bags are 2 bags with the inside bag bigger than the outside bag. The inner bag contains "poo powder" which deodorizes and gels your waste... but there is no peeing in the poo bag, just FYI.
So why do we poo in a bag and not in a hole we dug in the woods? Well....
1st it takes a year for human poop to biodegrade, so it's not as "natural" as one may think.
2nd, we are not the first nor the last 10 campers out in the wilderness. If our poop takes a year to decompose and there have been hundreds of campers camping in the same spot we have been camping in... just imagine how much poo is still there.
Finally, if you poo too close to a watershed or streams, groundwater can be contaminated... which can lead to giardia (aka: you'll poop your pants like crazy if you drink contaminated water)
Well, I hope you have thought twice now about how you poo. I will now forever feel guilty if I don't poo in a bag when I'm in the woods.
