Students work in their table groups to create a motion poster with these new vocabulary words:
Do Now: 4th Period
Do Now: Friday 2.6.15
Which ONE of the 10 items do you think you can accurately guess the pH for? Do you think it is an acid, base or neutral? Why did you guess that? What "Evidence" were you basing your prediction from?
2. baby oil
3. mountain dew
5. Hydrochloric acid (YOU CANT USE THIS)
7. method spray
8. tap water
9. hot sauce.
Acid & Base Mini Lab 3rd and 4th periods
Students conduct the lab and complete their lab reports in Google Docs.
Submit completed lab reports to the Google Classroom.
Google Classroom Codes
3rd period: si5y797
4th period: mnpr4q
For acids and bases:
1.Describe their properties
2.Give an example
3.State the pH range
4.Tell the concentration of hydrogen ions.
“Acid’s have a pH range of ____ to ____, which means there is ____ of hydrogen ions. Acid’s have properties such as … One example of an acid is____.
“Bases have a pH range of ____ to ____, which means there is ____ of hydrogen ions. Bases have properties such as … One example of an base is____.”
ACID and Base Mini Lab
Students use Google Classroom to complete their Acid and Base Mini Lab.
1st period : z33uzr
2nd period: 9g1f8q
Open the Acid and Base Mini Lab Google Doc
Go to "File"
Click on "Make Copy"
Adjust the title for the copy using the format: class period - last name, first initial - Acid and Base Mini Lab
Example: 1- Anderson, L - Acid and Base Mini Lab
Example: 2- Zhang, H. - Acid and Base Mini Lab
Students need to fill out the data table "predicted pH" and "Evidence for Prediction" columns.
After completing they will conduct their experiment.
Below is a list of materials and their masses for an experiment:
Flask = 80 grams
VInegar = 10 grams
Baking Soda = 5 grams
Balloon = 2 grams.
In an experiment, the baking soda and vinegar is mixed in a flask and a balloon is placed over the top and collects the gas that is produced from the chemical reaction.
What will be the mass of the materials after the reaction?
Pre-Lab reading. P. 274-279
Students round table read pages 274-279.
Student then complete workbook pages 134-136
