Goodbye Students!

It's been a great 8 months with you and I can honestly say that you are a group of fantastic students!  I hope you enjoyed science as much as I've enjoyed teaching you science.  I wish all of you the best of luck in high school and hope to hear from you in the future.   I will try to attend promotion in May with Baby Anderson in tow.  Please be as fantastic to the sub as you were with me.

Live long and prosper,
Mrs. Anderson

End of 1st Semester!

The end of the 1st semester is fast approaching.  Students must turn in any late assignments by FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11th in order for it to count in this final marking period/semester grade.

As a reminder:  there are 3 marking periods.  The 3rd ends this  FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11th.  All three marking  periods are then averaged together to calculate the 1st semester grade.  The semester grade is a grade that High Schools see.

Health Education Week

The week of December 14th will be health education week.   Students will learn about STD and HIV prevention in a safe classroom environment.
Students will be sent home with a reminder note and parents  NOT wishing to have their students partcipate will sign and return note before December 14th.
Note to parents

What can I do to help my Child?

Middle school is a transitional age, where the support and handholding of elementary school is fading and the realization of high school independence is not far away.  So, "how can I help my child succeed in middle school?" is question asked by many parents.

Marian Wilde posts  7 steps you can do to help your child succeed in middle school .  Steps include:
  1. Offer hands-on guidance
  2. help them get organized
  3. Teach time-management skills
  4. Develop  note-taking skills
  5. Help hone buddy study skills
  6. Meet with the teacher(s)
  7. Consider a tutor.
For a detailed description of what these steps entail, I encourage you to read Marion Wilde's article here.

I am here to help!

Please reach out to me via email at any time to discuss your child's progress within my class.

3rd Marking Period

Students , Parents and Guardians:
We are now in a new marking period so the grade book has reset to a "blank slate".
Grades at the end of this marking period, in December, will include the 3rd Marking period Grade AND the FINAL SEMESTER GRADE.
The final semester grade is the 1st-3rd marking period grades added together.

What we're doing in class right now!

Picture
We have begun our "chemistry" unit of science.
Students are working on building the periodic table for our classroom.  Above is a picture from last year.

How can I help my child?

Right now your child has been assigned a specific element.
If you would like to help your child, please ask them to explain what they know about their element.
If they are unable to give you many details ask to see their ISN (Interactive Science Notebook).
If they are still unable to explain their element, please work on their element with them!

Parent Teacher Conference is November 16th -20th

Has your child told you that parent teacher conference is next week?!
If you have not received a phone call from a teacher, but would like to meet with the teachers please email me with a day and time you are available at andersonL1@sfusd.edu
